brown family tradition

scrabble in front of the fire in the evening. my mum, sister anna and i doing battle on the old school board. anna and i play against one another online all the time now. it's the evening before my sister's wedding so i let her beat me ;)

pet sematary (28)

i actually did re-watch the film titled the very same just the other day. it was as good as i remembered, not a stellar production but definitely one of the better stephen king book-to-screen translations. the movies are never as good as the original novel. anyway i digress. this photo is of our memorial to jack, mands' and my first cat, in our front courtyard. he died not long after we moved house, he literally just dropped dead one morning, not long after we'd had him along to the vet for an ordinary check-up and he was diagnosed with a heart murmur. the vet said he'd be fine without medication for it until he was a lot older. guess she was wrong. he was only 3 :(

nancy hazell

gramma, my mum's mum, at rebecca and ali's wedding. she is 87 and going really well. the female genes in the familial line are very strong - my mum has 5 sisters and 1 brother. and of the 15 cousins, only 4 are boys. girl power!!

hazell-tinged memories

my cousin rebecca exchanging rings with her partner ali at northwest bay. a very special day and a special location - right across the bay from the house that my grandparents built, that my mum grew up in, and that my sisters & i grew up in. a day layered on top of decades of great family memories.

masquerade ball of sorts

this is one of my sisters, georgina, at my 30th which was basically a drinks and nibbles in the backyard affair but i required that people wore masks. if i remember correctly i think this mask was actually anna's (my other sister) but gina had borrowed it for a moment. anyway it's a pretty cool mask. mine was a jester (of the court) mask with the floppy hat points (the technical term being liliripes!) with jinglebells on the ends.

there's a mouthful of wine left there

this is a bit of an abstract one which is about my personal associations with the image. it's the end of a delicious christmas day lunch with a scrunched up and admitted un-christmassy-looking napkin, the end of a good glass of wine, and the start of a good (ie tasmanian) beer. you're full and content and sharing some good times with three generations of your family. you're making memories. it's been a good day and you're happy with your lot in life. or rather, i was :)

jess and her dad

dad is the bigger, more unstable looking one on the left. i am the more carefully composed and sturdier one on the right. we built our traveller's cairns by the water at the bay of fires when we were there a few weekends ago. i wonder if they (we!) are still standing there. how long will we stand the test of time, nature, or more destructive-minded folk passing by?
